Western Digital is on the move to once again to offer a comprehensive set of storage solutions, and the company has introduced 3D NAND solid state drives to the Malaysian market today, the WD Blue 3D NAND SSD and SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD are the first consumer solid state drives built with the company’s 64-layer 3D NAND technology, which aims to deliver lower power consumption and higher performance, endurance and capacities. Due to the advantage of using 3D NAND, the solid state drives are offered with a maximum storage capacity of 2TB.

Both the new WD Blue and Sandisk Ultra 3D solid state drives come with pretty decent data transfer speeds, they perform up to 550MB/s on sequential read and 530MB/s on sequential write, these solid state drives are targeted at users upgrading from hard drives and want the best endurance, as WD claims that the drives could offer users up to a 10-year lifespan if they frequently perform heavy data transfers. Though there isn’t any difference in terms of performance between these two 3D SSD models, they do offer different form factors. For instance, the WD Blue 3D NAND SSD is being offered in a 2.5-inch case and a single-sided M.2 2280 form factor, while the Sandisk Ultra 3D SSD is only being offered in a 2.5-inch case.
