Many of you would be familiar with the navigation app known as Waze of course. Well, Waze may no longer be just an app that allows you to avoid jams as the company will be testing out a new carpooling feature that would make it work a lot like other ridesharing services.
Called Waze Rider, this new app will match users with a driver heading in the same direction. During the test period, riders will be paying the drivers 54 cents per mile. An interesting thing to note about the charges is that Waze is currently not taking a cut out of the driver’s earnings, although that may change during or after the test period.
For now, Google has selected a number of companies to assist in testing out Waze Riders. These companies include Google themselves, Adobe, UCSF and Walmart’s Global eCommerce division. While Google may be expanding this service to other companies during the testing period, it is highly unlikely hat the public will have access to Waze Rider until the service is officially launched.
