We all know how taxing balik kampung trips can be come Chinese New Year, what with all the heavy traffic. Waze has recently shared their traffic predictions for the upcoming festive period (Feb 4-6), and here’s how the forecast looks like.

For those residing in the capital, Waze suggests starting your journey between 6pm and 11pm; while the absolute worst times would be between 4am and 10am.

For Johoreans, it is advised that you travel between 6pm and 11pm and avoid driving in the morning. You’d also have to consider those travelling to and from Singapore as an added factor if you’re planning on traveling near the border.

If you’re in Kedah, you’d best prepare for congestion in the morning throughout the three days. Travel between 6pm and 11pm to be safe.

Meanwhile, Kelantanese folks should make a move during the night and avoid the roads from 8am to 10am.

For those in Malacca, traveling during the early hours of the morning should be avoided, instead opt to travel at night from 8pm to 10pm.

Moving on to East Malaysia, specifically Kuching, periods for heavy traffic is a little more erratic – on Feb 4 and 6, avoid traveling from 3am to 4am, while on Chinese New Year itself, avoid the roads around noon. Again, the best time to travel would be at night.

Now that you’ve got the down-low on next week’s traffic, you can make informed decisions when you plan your journey this Chinese New Year.
