VLC has released a new VLCKit 3.0 update which brings a handful of enhancements to the framework for the app on iOS, tvOS and macOS, this is the first major update that the company has released in over three years.
The update adds new APIs which will allow full support for H.264 and H.265 file formats and decreases the memory management for 4K videos. This new management format offers decrease iPhone CPU usage from 100% to less than 20% usage which can effectively save battery life. Other than that, it also comes with improved 3D videos, better touch controls and easier access to videos that are stored over the network. As for tvOS, the new update brings its own APIs with TVVLCKit to allow developers to easily use libraries on the platform.
