Vivo launched the X50 series — its first 5G phones in 2020 with a gimbal-style camera stabilization. Naturally, the camera on the X50 Pro+ is one of the highlights; it was first rumored to be included in vivo’s Apex 2020 concept phone but COVID-19 has made it impossible to be demonstrated to the public.

There will be three phones in total — the X50, the X50 Pro and the X50+. Each device has its own key features; the X50 is the slimmest 5G phone so far, the X50 Pro has a gimbal camera, and the X50 Pro+ features the new Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor.

vivo X50 Pro+The highest-end model of the series is the first to be equipped with Samsung’s new sensor. Not only will it come with a 50MP main camera, but it’ll also sport a 13MP ultrawide camera and a 13MP periscope zoom camera with up to 60x hybrid zoom like the recently released realme X3 SuperZoom. The X50 Pro+ will also feature a 32MP portrait camera with f/2.5 aperture which is expected to support 2x optical zoom.

Being the top variant, we’ll also be getting a Snapdragon 865 chipset and a 6.56-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’ll ship with Android 10 with Funtouch OS 10.5 on top. The 4,350mAh battery in this phone will also support 44W Vivo FlashCharge.

The X50 Pro might not be as premium as its elder sibling, but it has one unique feature — gimbal-style stabilization. This phone comes with a 48MP Sony IMX 598 sensor with f/1.6 aperture but with its gimbal system, it is expected to surpass the performance of standard OIS systems. The other cameras include a 13MP portrait camera, and an 8MP periscope zoom camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera.

The X50 Pro also comes with a similar 6.56 AMOLED screen but instead of supporting a 120Hz refresh rate, vivo opt for 90Hz refresh rate. It’ll be sporting a 4,315mAh battery that supports 33W Vivo FlashCharge and will be packing a Snapdragon 765G chipset with 8GB RAM.

The lowest-end model is the vivo X50 which is also the slimmest 5G phone on the market at the time of writing. However, it loses the gimbal system on the X50 Pro and uses a four-axis OIS instead. It’s packed with a 48MP main camera, a 5MP macro camera, a 13MP portrait camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. It’ll also come with a smaller 4,200mAh battery, but it’ll still support the 33W Vivo FlashCharge that was seen in the vivo V19.

Pricing and availability

All three models are launched in China, but they’re expected to be launched globally in the near future. The X50 starts at ¥3,498, the X50 Pro starts at ¥4,298 and the X50 Pro+ starts at ¥4,998.
