Vivo has pulled off yet another move which is typical of many Chinese manufacturers especially in 2016 – refreshing a flagship smartphone in the same year. The more well known Xiaomi and OnePlus companies have done it with the Xiaomi Mi 5s and the OnePlus 3T respectively. Vivo is doing the same with the world’s first known handset with 6GB of RAM, the Vivo XPlay 5, and as a result we now have the Vivo XPlay 6.

The Vivo XPlay 6, like its predecessor, still sports a dual edge display on the front measuring at 5.46-inches. The screen is likely the same one seen on the XPlay 5, an AMOLED panel with QHD resolution. What’s lying underneath the hood may come as a surprise as the Vivo XPlay 6 retains the same Snapdragon 820 processor instead of the newer Snapdragon 821 chip. The amount of RAM stays at 6GB, which is reasonable given the fact that 8GB of RAM is a little too ridiculous for current standards. Storage is also at the same 128GB capacity.

Vivo hops onto the dual camera bandwagon, jumping from a single sensor to a dual sensor setup on its rear camera from the XPlay 5. In a vertical arrangement, the XPlay 6’s rear camera setup comprises of 12MP + 5MP shooters, with a large f/1.7 aperture for better capturing of light. The selfie camera on the front gets a refresh as well, bumped up from 8 megapixels to 16 megapixels.

An unusual update is with the Vivo XPlay 6’s fingerprint sensor. Vivo has opted for a fingerprint sensor on the front this time instead of the rear fingerprint sensor seen on the XPlay 5. Battery capacity also gets an upgrade from 3,600mAh to 4,080mAh, and the phone has support for fast charging.

The premiumly spec-ed out Vivo XPlay 6 won’t come at a low price, like most of Vivo’s high end smartphone. The XPlay 6 carries a price tag of 4,498 CNY (RM2,870.25). What do you think?
