After staying relatively quiet in mobile world, LG could finally be stepping into the limelight with the introduction of their new flagship, the LG G8 ThinQ.
The reason why we think the G8 ThinQ will make its mark in the mobile market this year is because of its quirky but fascinating features. First, the phone’s 6.1-inch screen doubles as an earpiece. The in-house developed Crystal Sound OLED screen vibrates to create sound – it works together with the phone’s boombox speaker at the bottom to create cohesive audio.

Another cool feature is the G8’s front-facing camera which has motion capture technology built into it. The 8MP lens is capable of 3D-mapping which it uses to scan your face for unlocking the device.
Another method to unlock the G8 is by scanning, not your fingerprints, but your veins! LG’s Hand ID uses “biometric authentication” tech; its IR sensors collect information about your blood and draws an image of your vein structure – all you need to do to unlock your device is to hover your hand over the screen and the phone will unlock. Pretty creepy when you spell out the technicalities, but it’s a cool feature, nonetheless.

For extra value, the front-facing camera can also detect gestures. LG calls it AIrMotion and how you utilize it is by making a claw gestures above the camera and that’ll activate app shortcuts or even play media.
Now, even without these features, the G8 still looks like a capable flagship on paper; the phone runs on the Snapdragon 855 chipset – which is expected of a marquee device – it sports 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, and ships with Android 9. The phone is powered by a 3,500mAh battery, which is smaller than the standard 4,000mAh that you expect to come with a modern flagship.
