‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ broken on iPhone 13; fix to come in next software update

Apple recently acknowledged the broken ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ feature that has been affecting iPhone 13 users. The issue has been addressed on a support document page, but there’s basically no fix yet.

iPhone 13 users may receive a message that says “Unable to Communicate with Apple Watch” if they try to unlock their iPhone while their face mask is on.

‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ was introduced earlier this year in light of the pandemic

This feature was introduced earlier this year as an alternative to iPhone users who didn’t want to remove their masks whenever they want access to their phones.

iPhone users need to own an Apple Watch; when the phone detects a face mask, users can unlock using their passcode-enabled Apple Watch that has to be worn on their wrist.

So…what’s the fix?

At the time of writing, Apple’s only solution is to turn off ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ and unlock your iPhone by entering the passcode or removing your mask.

However, Apple promises to include a fix in the upcoming software update, so iPhone 13 users will be able to use the ‘Unlock with Apple Watch’ feature again when the time comes.
