Earlier this week, LG launches a compact version of the LG V20 in Japan, known as the LG V34. Although it edges out the V20 in terms of the water resistance feature, it seems like the former does not have a removable battery like the latter.
Like the LG V20, only a handful of flagship handsets pack a removable battery. Manufacturers like Samsung have switched to non-removable batteries for its Galaxy S series and Note series beginning last year. However, one point to note is the Galaxy S5 that was introduced back in 2014 had a removable battery underneath its back cover, along with an IP67 rating as well. The irony is that the S6 sported a unibody design with a non removable back cover and battery, and Samsung dumped the water resistance feature for that generation. Having said that, it is probably safer and easier for a water resistant phone to have a non removable battery.
According to Android Authority, LG has claimed that the company has no plans whatsoever to offer the LG V34 elsewhere. That is bad news for those who are eager for a smaller LG V20 with water resistance. Instead of a 5.7-inch display, the V34 sports a 5.2-inch screen with the same QHD resolution. The rest of the specs are identical throughout apart from the V34’s smaller battery.
There are still ways to obtain the LG V34 from Japan if you so please to, but do check through the detailed specs of the handset before making your decision. Yes, we are talking specifically about the supported LTE bands which play a huge role in making sure the handset works with your local carriers’ 4G networks. What do you think?
