On the 23rd of November 2018, Telekom Malaysia Unifi service was faced with temporary disruption due to cables being destroyed by construction works, at Cherating, Pahang.

Unifi was quick to inform their customers on their Twitter page, by posting a statement  that they are aware and have detected a cable cut incident that happened at Cherating, Pahang and internet traffic at Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak may be affected, so it rerouted traffic to ease congestion.

Unifi had also shared a few pictures of the construction site where the cables were cut off, which Unifi mentioned that it was called “Ground Zero”. The picture shows a land that has been excavated, and exposed cables that has been “dug out” or cut off.

Unifi kept their users updated on the case by posting the latest updates on their Twitter, and to reassure their users that all is doing well.

“Update on cable cut in Cherating caused by construction works: Our broadband services have been fully restored since 7am this morning. Big thanks to the tech team working over the night repairing the damage cables,” tweeted Unifi.

This is the second time in two weeks where Unifi suffered disruptions due to construction works. With the recent case of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) putting TM under scrutiny due to a high number of customer complaints, TM appears to be more efficient and positive on their service.

In addition to that, the hashtag #UnifiAlerts used in their media update has been receiving positive updates from the public, with some congratulating Unifi on their quick and efficient works on repairing the cables, whereas some asked if their area was affected by the damage.
