We have some bad news for those of you who make short videos on Vine. Twitter has announced today that it would be discontinuing the service’s mobile app within the coming months, which means you can no longer create video clips with it.

No specific timeframe was given as to when the Vine mobile app will be pulled from the various app stores, but Twitter has promised that it will alert users before making any changes to the app or website. While the Vine app will no longer be available, the website will continue to exist to showcase all footage that has been uploaded on the site. However, seeing as no new Vines can be made once the app goes offline, the Vine website will very much be an internet archive.

The discontinuation of the Vine app will pretty much spell the end of Vine itself. Twitter’s call to discontinue the short video service isn’t all that surprising as the service has been bleeding users to competitors like Instagram and Snapchat. Couple that with Twitter’s own revenue issues and its failure to sell itself to other potential buyers, it is no surprise that Twitter is killing of Vine to shore up its finances.
