The ZTE MAX XL is a new affordable 6-inch phablet of less than RM500

ZTE is no stranger to producing budget smartphones for the consumer market. The Chinese manufacturer has a strong presence in the Asian and US market, and is now planning to further strengthen its position in the latter region by launching another handset in collaboration with US prepaid mobile carrier Boost Mobile. The ZTE MAX XL has officially been unveiled exclusive to Boost Mobile’s prepaid plans and it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

A phone that readily runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat is still very much a rarity, so ZTE has nailed this aspect when it comes to the MAX XL. The phone might not be palm friendly to some as it sports a larger than usual 6.0-inch display at 1080p resolution on the front. It might sound like ZTE is cutting corners when it comes to its internals as the MAX XL features an entry level Snapdragon 435 processor. Coupled with that are 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

The camera department of the ZTE MAX XL is a standard affair, with a 13MP rear facing camera and a selfie shooter of 5MP. The battery is of 3,990mAh which sounds sufficient enough for a phone of its size. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor, a surprise when you consider its price tag of $129.99 (RM565.52). Boost Mobile has slashed the price of the ZTE MAX XL to $101.99 (RM443.71) as a web-only offer.

For such an attractive price point, one wouldn’t complain about what the ZTE MAX XL has to offer. It’s rather unfortunate that the phone won’t be expected to be available outside the US as we know it. What do you think of the ZTE MAX XL?
