Last week, vivo posted on their Facebook page teasing on the vivo APEX 2019 and today, the company has announced the vivo APEX 2019 concept smartphone in Beijing during a press conference.

One of the highlights of the phone is that it will be supporting 5G connectivity through the integration of the latest Qualcomm 855 processor. In addition to that, we already knew beforehand that the phone will have no notch, no bezels, no buttons and no ports.

The design of the phone is called Curved-Surface Waterdrop Glass in which the phone has no holes and this phone is made with a minimalist concept in mind. The pictures released by the company shows water all around the phone which might also hint that the phone could be water resistance like the Meizu Zero with IP68 rating.

That aside, the vivo APEX 2019 also equips the Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning technology that allows the in-display fingerprint scanning to work at almost every area of the screen. It is also paired with vivo’s Fingerprint Light function which causes pixels to light up around the touch point when users’ fingers are near the display to result in a better fingerprint image for higher locking accuracy.

In addition to being able to easily unlock the phone, the Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning technology is also convenient for users to unlock their apps that need security access because they can tap on the specific app and immediately unlock the app.

The screen also works as a speaker thanks to the Body SoundCasting technology that the company adopted, in which the display will use screen vibration function to emit sounds.

In terms of the absence of physical buttons, vivo has replaced it with their Touch Sense technology that combines capacitive touch and pressure-sensing which is also similar to Meizu Zero’s virtual buttons with haptic feedback.

As for its port situation, vivo has decided to replace the USB port with a MagPort, a magnetic power connector. The MagPort allows charging and also data transfer, and it is placed at the back of the phone near the bottom.

Apart from that, the vivo APEX 2019 will come with Jovi AI assistant and also sport 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. A dual rear camera setup is also spotted on its back, but the front camera is nowhere to be seen. That being said, we’re guessing that the front camera might be a pop-up selfie camera just like the vivo NEX.
