The Samsung Galaxy S8 predicted to sport 4K Super AMOLED display

While QHD displays on smartphone seem more than sufficient, analysts predict that the Galaxy S8 by Samsung could feature a display in glorious 4K resolution.

If it turns out to be true, the Galaxy S8 will be the first Samsung handset to sport such resolution, but it definitely won’t be the first. Sony has written history last year when it launched the Xperia Z5 Premium, but didn’t do much justice for 4K displays since the phone technically does not run on full 4K resolution all the time. Analysts from UBI Research spotted a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED 4K display panel that was showcased by Samsung during last month’s Display Week conference, and claimed that it will be the display panel equipped in the Galaxy S8 next year.

The Xperia Z5 Premium sported a IPS LCD panel, hence a Super AMOLED 4K display might turn out to be more attractive than expected. While 4K displays on smartphones might still be deemed as an overkill, the rapid emergence of VR technology might suggest otherwise. Plus, if Samsung really churns out a 4K display Galaxy S8, chances are that the rest of the competition will follow suit. Looks like Samsung’s going all out for 2017. First with foldable smartphones, and now this. What do you think?
