OPPO’s true flagship phone is about to make its debut in the next couple of hours, and while there seems to be no embargo for the media, The Verge has done a hands on video on the device which we finally have the opportunity to see how the phone looks like in real life. After the Vivo NEX, the OPPO Find X is the next notchless and bezel-less creation from BBK Electronics, and it does has a couple of neat tricks that differentiates itself from it’s in-house rival, it has a 6.4-inch display with a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio, and most interestingly, OPPO has done an interesting job at hiding away the main and front cameras by implementing a motorized mechanism, which shows up only when the camera app is activate or being used, this is definitely the most interesting camera hardware that we’ve seen from OPPO since the N3’s motorized swivel camera.
The form factor of the OPPO Find X alone already justifies that the company is no longer following the footsteps of high end smartphone rivals, OPPO isn’t giving up its reputation on making camera phones like it did with the Find 7 back then, the main camera comprises of a 16MP + 20MP camera that does optical zoom, while the front camera takes 25MP selfies which we believe to have been sourced from the R15 Pro and now sports a 3D facial scanning system. There’s no built-in fingerprint scanner in the display or at the back of the phone, and it relies entirely on it’s front camera for security, and since the front camera only reveals when it is activated, OPPO claims that it could open the camera in just 0.5 seconds, which is actually quite fast.
In terms of specs, the OPPO Find X comes with the flagship hardware specs you would’ve already expect, it uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor supported by 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage, the company’s famous VOOC Fast Charging is present and will juice up the 3730mAh battery in a jiffy. The phone comes preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and not too surprising, ColorOS still runs on top of it, which I haven’t been too fond of it’s recent iterations due to the similarities it has with iOS.
According to The Verge, customers in China will be able to make their orders starting today, it will also be available in North America and Europe, while an Asian launch can also be anticipated. The Find X would obviously be the most expensive smartphone that OPPO has ever made, but knowing Chinese phone makers, OPPO should set the phone’s price lower than devices like the Galaxy S9.
