In conjunction with the launch of the first ever Mi Authorized Premium Reseller Store in Malaysia, Xiaomi has also unveiled one of its phablets – the Mi Note 2. While most of us do know what to expect of the Mi Note 2 and how it looks like, but let’s take a good look on the phablet, in the flesh.

At first glance, the Mi Note 2 looks stunning, sporting an all glass build put together with a metal frame. It certainly reminds me of Samsung’s Galaxy Edge series, but it feels more like a Galaxy S6 Edge than the S7 Edge when being held in the hand, as its edges don’t seem quite smoothened out. Coupled with the 5.7-inch display on the front, the Mi Note 2 isn’t the most comfortable device out there to be held. Regardless, the 1080p resolution display still manages to maintain its own stride, with a good amount of saturation and deep blacks.

This is the global edition of the Mi Note 2, which features 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Snapdragon 821 processor and the amount of RAM will definitely ease the Mi Note 2 through multi tasking and heavy processes. The phone unfortunately still runs on Android Marshmallow, though its is being included in the list to receive Xiaomi’s Nougat software, so you might have to wait a little longer for that.

We did not have much time with the Mi Note 2’s camera, but it is safe to say that the 22.56MP rear shooter will fare decently well in 2017 although it’s more than a 5 month old handset. The 8MP selfie camera will hardly disappoint selfie lovers either. Battery is one of the Mi Note 2’s strong suits, at 4,070mAh. Users should be able to go through a full day’s use without having to recharge the Mi Note 2.

Bear in mind that those were only the initial impressions of the Mi Note 2. Stay tuned for a more in depth review of Xiaomi’s flagship phablet soon! The Mi Note 2 might not be perfect, but its attractive price of RM2,499 is hard to come by with the high end specs underneath the hood. Let us know your thoughts on the Mi Note 2 so far!
