Despite Google’s increasing developments on smartphones and new technology such as Tango, the company still ensures that it pays attention to developing markets via its Android One initiative of affordable Google Android phones. Google and General Mobile have partnered up once again, this time launching the GM 6 with a feature that is never seen before on any Android One device.
The feature mentioned is a fingerprint sensor. Don’t be surprised. Android One smartphones are very affordable hence they may not necessarily have the best hardware. Considering the fact that more entry level and mid range smartphones are adopting fingerprint sensors, it is no surprise that General Mobile has managed to squeeze in this feature for the low cost device.
Other specs include a 5-inch 720p display, a MediaTek MT6737T processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Another feature that is a rarity on budget handsets is a front facing selfie flash on the GM 6 which greatly complements the on-paper-impressive 8MP front facing camera. On the rear end, we’re looking at a 13MP shooter. The GM 6 is the second Android One smartphone to have Android Nougat installed out of the box, with version 7.0. With Google’s stock software, the GM 6 will definitely be in the VIP list of future software updates.
Pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet, but considering the fact that the GM 6 packs some extra features which are now made “necessary” like the fingerprint reader, it will likely cost a little more than the current Android One phones. Not by much, we hope. What do you think?
