In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung has launched a phone outside the trade show which might just interest you. After 2 years, the Galaxy Xcover 3 finally has a successor – the Galaxy Xcover 4. The new rugged handset has received a bunch of improvements over its predecessor, plus a decent price tag to it as well.
The Galaxy Xcover 4 definitely does look more towards an ordinary smartphone when compared to its beefy predecessors. Despite its sleeker design, Samsung did not shift its focus from the rugged features of the phone. The Xcover 4 is rated IP68 this time for water and dust resistance. It has also been certified with a US military standard of MIL-STD 810G, being able to withstand shocks and vibrations, extreme temperatures, intense sunlight and salt water mist.
In terms of display, the Galaxy Xcover 4 sports an improved 5-inch HD screen, a welcome upgrade from its non-HD predecessor. The screen is glove responsive too, and the physical navigation buttons below it are definitely handy. Underneath the hood lies an unnamed processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, likely to be of Exynos nature. Alongside that are 2GB of RAM and double the amount of storage from the Xcover 3 at 16GB. The Xcover 4 features a much improved camera this time with a 13MP rear camera of f/1.9 aperture. The selfie camera on the front is of 5 megapixels.
Topping the Galaxy Xcover 4 is its price tag which seems pretty decent for its rugged features, overlooking the specs that the phone packs. The handset will be priced at 259 Euros (RM1,216.80). Pricing and availability for regions outside Europe have yet to be revealed.
