Finally, after all the leaks circulating over the Internet, NVIDIA has officially announced the availability of the GeForce GTX 1060, it is the most powerful mainstream GPU ever released and as fast as last year’s flagship GTX 980. The GTX 1060 continues to be powered by the efficient Pascal architecture which is manufactured on the 16nm FinFET process, the specs of the GPU is also the same that has been leaked earlier, which comprises of 1280 CUDA cores, 6GB GDDR5 memory and a boost clock of 1.7GHz, power is rated at 120W via a single 6-pin connector, which makes it 75 percent more power efficient than the GTX 980.
In addition, the GTX 1060 will also support NVIDIA VRWorks and Simultaneous Multi Projection technology, which will improve three times performance improvements on VR applications over older GPUs. NVIDIA’s in-game screen camera tool ANSEL will also be made available to The Witcher 3 and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst this month, while the company’s very own VR Funhouse Demo will be available on Steam this month, which all of these will be supported by the GTX 1060.
Last but not the least, NVIDIA has also announced the Special Limited Founder’s Edition of the GTX 1060, which has been leaked previously and will be available for purchase directly from NVIDIA at $299. In previous reports, we have reported that the GTX 1060 will have a different cooler from the flagship GTX 1080 and the omission of SLI bridge fingers, hence we certainly look forward to how other OEMs would over the come the lack of SLI, given that this is a rather capable GPU that could be even more powerful with an SLI configuration. The GeForce GTX 1060 Special Limited Founder’s Edition and other OEM variants will be available on July 19, retail prices will start from $249 onwards.
