Huawei didn’t fall short of this year’s flagship competition with the release of the Mate 8 and the P9. The P9 in particular, highlighted Huawei’s collaboration with Leica, which the company announced a couple of months back. The P9 features a dual-camera setup by Leica, and has proven to be pretty impressive for the camera optics standard of 2016. However, it turns out that the dual-camera isn’t exactly manufactured by the German camera company.
Information from Chinese site MyDrivers has have indicated that the two rear cameras on the Huawei P9 is made by China’s Sunny Optical Technology. But don’t worry, neither Huawei nor Leica is playing tricks on us consumers. Sunny Optical Technology turns out to be a manufacturer authorized by the German company. If you’re not familiar with Sunny Optical Technology, it has been playing quite the role in manufacturing camera lenses for a number of smartphones out there, mainly by Chinese OEM’s like Lenovo, Xiaomi and Huawei.
Nevertheless, Leica’s collaboration with Huawei and Sunny Optical Technology has turned out to be a successful venture with the release of the Huawei P9. Looks like we will be seeing more Leica camera setups in Huawei’s handsets to come. What do you think? Tell us your thoughts at the comments section below!
