Two weeks ago, Spotify required users who are on the family plan to verify their home addresses via GPS. Spotify said that users might lose access to the app should they fail to verify their locations. This has caused concerns to arise.
Families are upset that Spotify wanted to ensure that family plan-users are at the same location, disregarding the fact that they may be separated for various reasons. Spotify stated that the verification was a test to improve user experiences of Spotify Premium in family plans. Unfortunately, many found it to be an intrusive experience instead.
However, Spotify shut down the verification method a few days back, hence users should no longer worry about the breach of privacy and data collection. Users can also access their Spotify account without any problems.
