Back in 2015, South Korea produced a video in order to promote the Kai KF-X fighter jet. Today, said video has come back to bite them in the rear as the Korea Times found out that the video in question used footage from video games in order to show off the fighter’s performance.
According to the report, it appears that whoever it was that was in charge of making the promo video for the Kai KF-X has used gameplay footage from Battlefield 3 and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, presumably without actually licensing the content in the first place. South Korea’s military has since acknowledged that the video wasn’t authorized and has since pulled the clips from use.
Not surprisingly, the companies involved in this controversy have begun blaming each other for this mess. The South Korean military has placed the blame with the company that was responsible for making the video, while the video producers are blaming South Korea’s Agency for Defence Development and Korea Aerospace Industries for greenlighting the video. Neither EA nor Namco Bandai have commented on this odd happening as of yet.
While it is unlikely that this controversy will gain much traction in South Korea, it is nevertheless amusing to see defence companies use video game footage in order to promote their machines of war.
