Even though Sony’s involvement in the action camera market doesn’t seem to be as aggressive as competitor GoPro, the company’s action cameras have been rather impressive when it comes to video quality and image stabilisation. The company has pulled the curtains off two new action cameras this round, namely the FDR-X3000R and HDR-AS300R, both cameras sport an all new Balanced Optical Image Stabilisation (B.O.SS) hardware that is usually found on the company’s Handycam video recorders, waterproof up to 60m with the supplied Underwater Housing, a new ZEISS wide angle lens with a 1/2.5″ Exmor R CMOS sensor that takes 8.2-megapixel photos, and the familiar BIONZ X processor found on the Alpha A7 cameras.
With the all new B.O.SS hardware, users can be assured that their videos will be properly stabilised when doing extreme activities, the FDR-X3000R in particular takes 4K videos at 100Mbps and Full HD videos at 50Mbps with the XAVC-S format, which is one of the highest recording bitrate we have seen on an action camera, it also supports taking 120fps slow-mo videos in Full HD resolution. In addition, Sony has also supplied the new RM-LVR3 Live View Remote out of the box for both cameras, it is 30 percent smaller than its predecessor and can be attached to various mounting accessories for viewing your footage and configuring the cameras’ settings.
Sony’s new FDR-X3000R and HDR-AS300R action cameras are already available in selected dealers and Sony Stores nationwide, the FDR-X3000R retails at RM2,199 while pricing of the HDR-AS300R will be revealed later by Sony Malaysia.
