Android Wear 2.0 was officially launched just a week ago to the joy of Android wearable users, but existing users won’t be able to enjoy Android Wear 2.0 just yet unless they opt for the newly released LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style in partnership with Google. Google has listed out Android Wear smartwatches that are compatible with the new version of Android Wear 2.0. The Sony Smartwatch 3 was not included in the list, but despite of that, there are still a couple of hopeful’s suggesting otherwise, till now.
The Sony Smartwatch 3, which was unveiled more than two years ago at IFA 2014 has been confirmed to not support the latest version of Android Wear, according to the product’s web page on Sony Mobile’s official site. Under the specifications tab you’ll discover a few lines of fine print below the list of specifications, with the last line stating:
“SmartWatch 3 SWR50 supports up to Android Wear 1.5. Android Wear 2.0 and onwards are not supported.”
If that’s not a solid confirmation of the bad news, I don’t know what is. The Sony Smartwatch 3 is one of the most affordable Android Wear devices in the market right now, but its aging technology won’t allow it to support Android Wear 2.0. If you happen to be a Sony Smartwatch 3 user, it is probably time for an upgrade, that is if you still find Android Wear practical enough for daily use.
