Sony enters the eSports realm with "PlayStation Tournaments"

With eSports gaining steam at a rapid pace, it’s no surprise that Sony wants a piece of the pie. As such, the company has teamed up with the ESL gaming network to host the first PlayStation tournament.

The first PlayStation Tournament will be a month-long NBA2K17 tournament that will run from October 27 until November 26th. “Major Cup rounds” will run every Saturday, and the top three players of the entire tournament will receive a prize pack that includes items such as a DualShock 4 and various other PlayStation gear.

If you’re interested in participating in the tournament, you’re going to need a copy of the NBA2K17, a PlayStation Plus subscription, and an ESL account. You’ll also need to register for the tournament at the ESL website, but once that’s done, you will be notified automatically about your upcoming games.

Sony’s NBA2k17 tournament is very much a test run of the system. The company has said that it is looking to expand the scope and playstyle variety of future PlayStation Tournaments, so this is very much a pilot that would allow both Sony and ESL to plan for future tournaments.
