Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to create a new era of smartphones

Qualcomm’s long-awaited Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform has finally been unveiled at the company’s annual Tech Summit. This platform is said to have made innovative advances compared to its predecessors in terms of AI, photography, connectivity, and gaming so keep reading to find out more.

AI

The 7th Gen Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine has been paired with Qualcomm’s Hexagon processor and it features 2x faster tensor accelerator and 2x larger shared memory than its predecessor. With this, you’ll be able to experience speeds up to 4x faster than before.

Moreover, this AI engine works with Sonde Health to analyse your vocals, detecting if you’re at risk of conditions like asthma, depression, and even COVID-19.

Photography

Apart from the mobile platform, Qualcomm has also introduced the Snapdragon Sight Technology – the first 18-bit ISP Qualcomm Technologies – that will allow your smartphone to capture 4000x more camera data and shoot 8K HDR videos.

Other than that, there will also be a “mega night mode” which captures and puts together 30 images for the best night shot.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, you can now reach up to 10Gbps 5G speeds with Qualcomm Technologies’ 4th Gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem RF-System. Furthermore, Wi-Fi connections have been upgraded as well. The Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System is capable of supporting the fastest Wi-Fi speeds available over Wi-Fi 6 and 6E – up to 3.6Gbps.

Gaming

In terms of gaming, you can look forward to a 30% boost in performance and 25% improvement in power efficiency with the re-architected Qualcomm Adreno GPU. Visual wise, you get ultra-smooth responsiveness and colour rich HDR scenes.  To accompany the outstanding visuals, the platform makes use of the Audiokinetic technology and Snapdragon Sound Technology to provide you with rich, immersive, and ultra-clear sound.
