Like any other year, Qualcomm will launch a high end processor along with a group of mid range ones before unveiling another flagship processor later in that year. This year is no different as we saw the Snapdragon 835 processor operating underneath the hood of a few flagship smartphones thus far – the Samsung Galaxy S8, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Xiaomi Mi 6. The chipmaking company is slated to unveil its line of mid range processors, with the Snapdragon 660 in tow for a May 9 launch in China.
According to Chinese news outlet Anzhuo, Qualcomm has begun sending out press invites for the launch event in China. The Snapdragon 660 will definitely be of mid range standard, but over the last couple of years mid range chipsets have been closing in on the high end ones, resulting in better performance among mid range devices lately. As a mid range processor, the Snapdragon 660 might just be worthy of picking a fight against the top of the line Snapdragon 835.
The Snapdragon 660 processor is rumored to use a Samsung 14nm process, with eight cores consisting of the Cortex A73 and A53. It is also tipped to sport an Adreno 512 GPU, along with UFS 2.1 storage and up to 24MP camera support. It will also be likely that the Snapdragon 660 chipset will make an appearance with numerous future mid range smartphones.
