Samsung would normally launch a new tablet during mid-year, but with more rumors of an early Galaxy Note 6 launch, it’s pretty uncertain as to when the Korean manufacturer will be updating its tablets. On top of that, Samsung has quietly released an updated Galaxy Tab S2 in Europe this week, which suggests that the company might not be updating its tablet this year after all. But then again, that claim is still a far fetch.
Cyberport.de, an online electronics retail store has been offering the Galaxy Tab S2 in a newer variant, and this applies to both the 8.0 and 9.7 model, representing their screen sizes. Tha main difference of the refreshed variants from the previous ones lies within the heart of the tablet itself. The newer Galaxy Tab S2 sports a Snapdragon 652, a processor that has been rumored to be under the hoods of many upcoming smartphones, in place of the older Exynos 5433, Samsung’s homegrown octa-core processor. It seems like an upgrade from the Exynos to the newer Snapdragon SoC, considering the fact that the Snapdragon 652 consists of four Cortex-A72 cores, which on paper is more efficient than the eight cores on the Exynos 5433.
Other specs remain the same from the original Galaxy Tab S2, with a Super AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage and a fingerprint scanner. Another notable and possibly the only other difference apart from the processor is that the refreshed Tab S2 will be running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, so that’s a plus. Till then, stay tuned!
