Snapchat is trying to be one step ahead again with its new feature known as Snapchat Cameo that uses Deepfake technology.

Using users’ selfies and GIFs, the company goes through a simplified version of Deepfaking their face into GIFs, so they can better convey their messages instead of only depending on a cartoon-ish Bitmoji. Your selfie will be fitted into the pre-made GIFs where the animation will be included so it’ll seem more realistic too.

Snapchat said, “Cameos aren’t ready to take the stage yet, but stay tuned for their global debut soon!” The company is currently testing this new feature in some international markets, but the only one we have confirmed so far is France.

However, we can’t really say that Snapchat is the first to come up with this Deepfake technology. Previously, the Chinese social app Zao has introduced this feature, allowing users to Deepfake their faces into movie scenes which in return caused privacy concerns due to the initial user agreements.
