As 2016 comes to a close, Snapchat has added a bunch of new features in conjunction with the year end holiday season. Having gotten ripped off by the likes of Instagram’s Stories feature, Snapchat aims to step up its game with the introduction of these new additions.
First off, you can now create group chats on the app. Snapchat allows users to communicate with up to 16 friends at one go. Group chats can be started via a Snap or when initiating a new conversation. Group chats can even be named, but bear in mind that all Snaps and messages in a group conversation will automatically be deleted afte 24 hours.
Snapchat has also added a couple of artsy features to inspire the creativity of its users, the Scissors and Paintbrush Creative Tools. These tools are only available when you edit saved snaps from your “Memories” tab. The Scissors tool allows you to cut out a part of the Snap to be turned into a sticker for future uses in the app. The Paintbrush tool on the other hand brings a whole load of paintbrush filters over the Snap, including a van Gogh inspired filter, similar to how Prisma works.
An added bonus by Snapchat is the integration of Shazam. In order to Shazam a tune, hold down on the camera screen in the app, and Snapchat will help you identify the tune with the help of Shazam. Upon identification, a Shazam card will pop up, with some info and links to listen or the stream the song further.
The update which includes the above mentioned features should be available for both iOS and Android platforms on their respective app stores. What do you think of these new updates for Snapchat?
