Skype rolls out group video calling feature to Android and iOS

It seems like we have reached a point where smartphone screens are larger than ever. With most handsets out there sporting screen sizes of around 5.5 inches, Skype finally thinks that the time has come for them to bring group video calling to mobile devices, since group calling on mobile devices isn’t something new.

Skype has begun rolling out this new feature to Android and iOS devices throughout North America and Western Europe, with further plans to make the capability available worldwide in March.

Skype will be able to support up to 25 participants for video calls. Not only that, group video calls will be in HD quality. In focus view, the active speaker in the video call will be displayed on the front and center of the screen and you have the option to pin a selected participant to the center of the screen, whereas in grid view, participants will be arranged in a grid style. Apart from that, Skype claims to provide crystal clear audio, courtesy of their collaboration with Intel to include a SILK Super Wide Band audio codec.

You will also be able to add new people into a group chat or call easily by sending them a unique link. Anyone with the link would be able to join in the conversation and they don’t have to be in your contact list.

Class reunions can now be conducted on the go, however limited to your favorite 25 classmates. What do you think about this new feature? Comment below!
