Late last year, Xiaomi took the world by storm when it launched its Mi MIX concept flagship smartphone. The handset topped the spec sheet, along with an attractive design as well – a near bezel-less display on the front. The unveiling of the Mi MIX put Xiaomi on cloud nine for quite some time, till bezel-less displays became a trend. But this year’s iteration of the Mi MIX will likely go with the flow of the trend.
2017 saw the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 with extra immersive displays of 18:9 aspect ratios. Their displays occupied more real estate than ever on the front panel, sparking a new trend in smartphone history. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun might have accidentally revealed that the company’s upcoming device will have that same feature as well.
Lei Jun posted up an image on Chinese micro blogging site Weibo of a screenshot promoting a now discounted Mi Powerbank. But that isn’t the key attraction of the image. If you look carefully, the screenshot by Lei Jun is longer than the usual 16:9 smartphone display, translating to an 18:9 display instead. It is highly likely that Lei Jun is indeed using a Mi MIX 2 smartphone as his daily driver. Recent rumors also point to the Mi MIX 2 sporting an 18:9 display.
Although a speculation will only go this far, we do expect the Mi MIX 2 to be an excellent device in terms of its design and internals, given the standard set by its predecessor. What do you think?
