Samsung's standalone VR headset may be called the Odyssey

For months, we’ve heard that Samsung has been working on a standalone VR headset that has nothing to do with the Gear VR. Today, reports are coming out that Samsung has applied for a registration of a trademark, and it appears that the product in question may be said headset.

According to Sammobile, Samsung has filed for the registration of the Odyssey, presumably Samsung’s standalone VR headset. According to the description provided for the application, this device is mentioned as a “virtual reality game headset” and “virtual reality game software.”

The filing of this trademarks pretty much confirms that Samsung will be producing a VR headset that would compete with both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. While not information was given as to when we can expect the Odyssey, it’s probably safe to say that this particular headset will be launched after Samsung’s next iteration of the Gear VR.
