Over the weekend, there were more reports that the supposedly “safe” replacement Galaxy Note 7 has exploded in the United States. After the recent exploding cases, Samsung has reportedly decided to pull the plug on the smartphone’s production until further notice.
According to a report from Yonhap News, an anonymous official at a supplier for Samsung has stated that the Korean tech company has decided to suspend production of the Galaxy Note 7. This action is done in cooperation with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China. “This measure includes a Samsung plant in Vietnam that is responsible for global shipments,” says the official.
Samsung’s decision to freeze production of the Note 7 is understandable, considering that the replacement Note 7s are just as susceptible to explosion as the original batch of smartphones. That said, Samsung has yet to issue an official statement saying that the production of the Note 7 has been suspended, so nothing is set in stone quite yet. Whatever the case, the Galaxy Note 7 is probably the most problematic device that Samsung has launched within the past few years or so.
