Samsung has been thriving ever so strongly worldwide in terms of smartphone sales, but the company seems to be taking the plunge in certain regions, most notably China. With the amount of Chinese smartphone manufacturers available, it is certainly no surprise the Samsung is becoming less popular in mainland China.

The Korea Herald reports that Samsung has been losing out to local favorites such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo. The South Korean manufacturer only managed 3.5 million smartphone shipments in Q1 2017, a whopping 60 percent decline from the same time last year. Oppo, Vivo and Huawei however secured healthy growth with 81 percent, 60 percent and 25 percent increase in sales respectively. Huawei clinched first place in Q1 with a 19.7 percent market share in China.

An undeniable factor that contributes to Samsung’s lesser presence in China is the price points of its handsets. With flagship smartphones by Huawei, Xiaomi and OnePlus costing roughly half of Samsung’s, Chinese consumers are more likely to opt for local smartphone brands instead. In order for Samsung to revive its presence in China, the company definitely has to revamp the prices of its handsets being sold. What do you think?
