Samsung’s mess with the Galaxy Note 7 has not been kind to the company, what with Samsung’s stocks freefalling ever since it announced a global recall of the company’s latest smartphone. Today, a Korea Herald report states that the S8 may be coming a lot soon than many have anticipated in an attempt by Samsung to put the Note 7 battery problems behind them.

According to the report by the Korea Herald, analysts for KB Investment & Securities believe that the S8 launch may be moved ahead of the currently expected first quarter 2017 launch. “If Samsung’s flagship smartphone launch is delayed to the end of the first quarter of next year, the profitability of the mobile business division could be worsened next year,” says Kim Sang-pyo, an analyst for KB Investment & Securities.

It isn’t too surprising to find out that Samsung has already begun work on the S8 of course. Currently codenamed Project Dream, the S8 model numbers have already been leaked by SamMobile as the SM-G950 and the SM-G955, which means one of these would be the standard S8 while the other is the S8 Edge. Both smartphones will be Daydream-ready, although much of the specs have yet to be leaked/revealed.

While Samsung may be looking to push forward the S8 launch, the company should be wary of doing anything hasty as the company could ill afford to commit another Note 7-like mistake. That said, if Samsung does indeed push forward the S8 launch, we may hear more about said device by the end of the year.
