Samsung has officially took off the wraps of its next generation foldable phone at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6 introduces several design and hardware improvements over their predecessors, they also feature Galaxy AI experiences that takes advantage of their form factors.
Galaxy Z Flip6: Larger battery, better main camera
The Galaxy Z Flip6 now features a matte aluminum frame instead of a glossy one, the camera ring is now colored that makes it stand out more, it features the same 3.4-inch FlexWindow external screen that refreshes at 60Hz and a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that refreshes at 120Hz as its predecessor, it uses a dual-rail hinge that reduces the creases on the internal display, the dimensions are identical to its predecessor as well, but Samsung has fitted a larger 4000mAh battery that supports 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
In terms of performance, the Z Flip6 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip paired to 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage, Samsung has improved the cooling by fitting a vapor chamber that’s claimed to be 150% larger than the one on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Z Flip6 has got its main camera updated to a 50MP sensor, which we should see improved details and low light capabilities, while its ultrawide and selfie cameras are the same as before with a 12MP and 10MP resolution respectively. Aside from hardware improvements, the Z Flip6 also gains an improved camcorder user interface that allows better shooting controls, and a new Generative AI feature that can convert portraits into various artistic styles.
Galaxy AI continues to play a big part of the experience on the Z Flip6’s software experience, with the FlexWindow now supporting AI suggested replies to text messages, translated text can be shown on it when using Interpreter that makes foreign conversations easier, alongside with other features such as Chat Assist and Note Assist, it makes it the most intelligent foldable flip phone in the market.
Galaxy Z Fold6: All-new boxy design, AI sketch feature
After five generations, the Galaxy Z Fold6 finally gets a new redesign with a more boxy frame, Samsung has also slimmed down the screen bezels on both the external and internal display, while it increases the external display size to 6.3-inches, making it more friendly to handle and navigate that makes it feel more like a bar phone.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 is also now much lighter at 239g.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, the Z Fold6 now features a 1.6x larger vapor chamber than its predecessor for sustained heavy workloads, it has 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage, battery size remains at 4400mAh and still supports 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.
Cameras are similar to its predecessor, which you get a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto cameras at the back, the external screen has a 10MP camera for video calls while the internal under display camera remains at 4MP.
Like the Z Flip6, the Z Fold6 has similar Galaxy AI experiences, however what makes it different is its Sketch to Image feature, which you can easily transform an ugly doodle into a perfectly painted image in different styles, this feature can be accessed when calling out the Air Command menu with the S Pen.
Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 Preorder and Price
Customers can preorder the new foldables starting today, while general availability will start on 24 July 2024.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 will be available in Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint colors, while the Galaxy Z Fold6 will be available in Silver Shadow, Pink and Navy colors.
