Samsung acquires the creators of Siri, Viv Labs

Apple has Siri, Microsoft has Cortana, and Google has Google Assistant. Now, it appears that Samsung may be getting an AI assistant of its own as the Korean company has just acquired Viv Labs.

Known for the creation of Siri, Viv Labs has been busy working on Viv for a while now. The company first revealed the Viv AI Assistant in May at TechCrunch Disrupt, and has stated that the Viv will be leaps and bounds above what Siri is capable of.

No one has disclosed the amount of money Samsung has paid to acquire Viv Labs. That said, Viv Labs will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary, meaning that day-to-day operations at Viv Labs will be largely unchanged. While Viv Labs believes that Samsung’s acquisition would accelerate the development of Viv, it’ll probably be a few years down the line before Viv will be integrated into Samsung’s range of devices.
