After AMD had a great success in introducing the Ryzen and Threadripper processors to the world, they are now aiming their sights on servers with the announcement of the AMD EPYC processors and what a beast it is.

The EPYC processors will not only offer more Zen cores per socket but it will offer 128 PCI Express IO lanes for connecting co-processors like GPUs. It will also have more memory bandwidth with an 8-channel DDR4 controller. If these reports are accurate, it will not only double the CPU performance and bring about 256MB of cache storage to increase the efficiency of frequently used applications and commands and that server needs thus, reducing the need for off-chip memory making servers equipped with this processor more faster and efficient.

For now, we can only see what AMD plans to do with the EPYC processors as it would seem like the company is not only targeting Intel consumer computers which they are rather successful in but also servers. At the end of the day, regardless if Intel or AMD comes out on top, consumers like you and me will be the ones to benefit from this tussle between the two biggest computer chip makers.
