Reports indicate that Samsung will improve their Facial Recognition with software updates

When Samsung introduced facial recognition into their S8 lineup, it was not a feature that caught the attention of its users and they still opted to go for the questionable position of the fingerprint sensor. In addition to that, users could fool the feature by using a photo or video of the owner of the phone.

ETNews however, reported that the company is working hard to improve the iris scanning and facial recognition for the upcoming Galaxy S9 phones. They will still be using the front-facing camera to scan users but the improvements to the feature will allow it to scan faster and more accurate than the previous generation. An industry analyst also mentioned that the company is working on a suite for face scanning that would allow additional add-ons to be installed. This follows in line with Samsung’s strategy to improve their phones through software updates rather than upgrading the hardware.

Wheather they will be improving the feature is still unknown but with the Galaxy S9 slated to launch early 2018, we will only know more about this when the leaks start to come in closer to the launch date.
