In the mainstream smartphone world, Xiaomi is somehow the one of the smartphone makers to keep its device prices low year after year. Even ambitious Chinese startup OnePlus did not manage to do that with its bunch of low priced “flagship killers” whose price tags have increased by roughly 60% since the OnePlus One. Xiaomi is now breaking new grounds, unveiling the Redmi Note 5A, which still packs a good punch regardless of its low price.

The metal body of the Redmi Note 5A kicks off the value for money aspect of the phone. The 5.5-inch display in 720p might be a let down but it can still be decent. Underneath the hood is a Snapdragon 435 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Of course, you can opt for the higher end model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The rear camera of the handset is a standard 13MP shooter but the front facing selfie camera packs a pleasant surprise for selfie lovers – a 16MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture for all your crisp and sharp selfies. There also happens to be a lower end model which omits the rear fingerprint sensor, a downgraded selfie camera, a Snapdragon 425 chip and only 2GB of RAM that costs slightly lesser, but the standard variant is already affordable enough.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is currently a China-exclusive budget handset. It carries a price tag starting at CNY 899 (RM 578.06).
