Qualcomm Snapdragons are pretty much the de-facto chips for Android smartphones, barring the occasional Kirins and Exynos. Now though, Qualcomm is taking the Snapdragons to a new sector altogether as the company has announced that it will be producing the Snapdragon 410E and 600E, both of which are made for embedded and Internet of Things devices.
In terms of specifications, the 410E is a 1.2GHz processor that comes with an Adreno 306 GPU. The chip is capable of supporting Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity. The chip’s low power draw means that it is ideal for Internet of Things devices. The meatier of the two chips is the 600E which is a quad-core chip that supports Bluetooth 4, GPS, and 802.11 a to ac wireless connectivity. This chip is made for more resource-intensive applications like 3D graphics rendering.
Both chips will be made available to small and medium-size manufacturers as well as Qualcomm has announced that they will be pairing with Arrow Electronics to make both chips available to all. Qualcomm has stated that these two chips will be in production until 2025, meaning that the chip will be actively supported for the next nine years.
