Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon X60 modem to succeed the Snapdragon X55 – which is equipped in the Snapdragon 865 chipsets. The new modem is built on a minute 5nm architecture and will allow all deployment modes across all spectrums, both in 4G and 5G.
Qualcomm says that the modem is capable of download speeds of up to 7.5Gbps download rates along with 3Gbps upload speeds. Qualcomm also says that the SD X60 uses Dynamic Spectrum Sharing along with spectrum aggregation to widen the shared channels to allow for “true” 5G performance in the low-band networks.
The new modem is likely to arrive later in the year – possibly in the Snapdragon 865+ should it exist. Else, it will most definitely be equipped in next year’s flagship devices. This is an important development in the 5G arena as newer hardware arise, older technology can go for cheap, allowing for more affordable 5G devices, which honestly, is what everyone wants in Malaysia.
