The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were both unleashed by Google just yesterday at San Francisco. The company also launched a range of other products as part of its “Made by Google” initiative. One notable thing that was spotted with the Pixel 2 is that it scored the highest on DxOMark, the controversial benchmark site for smartphone cameras.
The Google Pixel 2 scored a high 98 marks after going through DxOMark’s series of thorough tests. This means that it trumps both the iPhone 8 Plus and the Galaxy Note 8 which tied for second place at 94 marks. The previous champion was the iPhone 8 Plus, which had its score just recently tied by Samsung’s first ever dual camera smartphone the Galaxy Note 8.
The Pixel 2 is able to achieve portrait shots with blurred background effects without the need of a secondary camera. What makes it better than the Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus is its camera’s ability to utilize both OIS and EIS at the same time, causing it to excel better in video.
Google’s latest flagship lineup is also exceptional under low light, with the Pixel 2 being able to retain a great dynamic range when capturing low light shots. Regardless, these scores by DxOMark shouldn’t be taken too seriously as the company is known to work with smartphone camera manufacturers, which might lead to bias scoring. What do you think?
