Pilot program launched for GoPro Fusion spherical camera

GoPro announced a pilot program for the GoPro Fusion, which is a 5.2k spherical camera designed to capture immersive virtual reality content and well as conventional non-VR video and photo formats. Professional content creators can apply to be part of the pilot program which is set to launch in summer 2017.

In addition to its high performance capture for VR experiences, the Fusion’s 5.2k resolution enables OverCapture creative solution which has the ability to “punch-out” the spherically captured video into conventional non-VR videos and photos in HD-quality. This is to enable traditional content creators that do not want to shoot a VR video, to capture the shot that they are looking for and well as capturing the unexpected. To actually understand better what would be the final product produced from the Fusion, watch the video below.

The GoPro Fusion will be compatible with a broad range of mounts and handheld accessories from GoPro and is set to have a limited commercial release by the end of 2017. Pricing will be provided at launch, if you are interested in participating in the pilot program, visit the link here.
