Do you know the term ‘Shiok’? If you do, chances are you are someone who understands Singlish. But, here’s the main point: the latest hero in Overwatch can speak Singlish, as discovered by gamer Caldoran.
While Caldoran was playing Echo in Overwatch public test realm servers, the hero said, “Shiok!” when he was spamming Blinks (a skill). He then took it to Twitter and asked the lead writer Michael Chu and the development team to confirm, in which Chu confirmed in Singlish, “Confirm plus chop.”

It’s only logical since Echo was developed by the Singaporean scientist, Dr Mina Liao. Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan also confirmed that information in the a developer update, in addition to sharing some of Echo’s backstory and abilities.
There’s no doubt that many Singaporean Overwatch players will be anticipating for the developers to release Echo so that they can hear more Singlish.
