Oppo certainly had a success with the F1 smartphone last year, the ‘Selfie Expert’ moniker is now being extended to the company’s latest F1s smartphone, which has been unveiled today with the same RM1,198 price tag with some minor hardware refinements under the hood. Being the successor to the original F1, the F1s brings over many things that is available on the bigger F1 Plus, which comprises of the same 2.5D curve glass 5.5-inch display coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, a 13-megapixel rear and 16-megapixel front camera, and a fast fingerpint scanner that unlocks as fast as 0.22 seconds, RAM and storage however stays at 3GB and 32GB respectively while it also gets a slightly slower Mediatek MT6750 SoC.
While you can call this a newer version of the F1 Plus and successor to the F1, the F1s features a larger 3075mAh battery that Oppo claims to produce 14 hours of juice for taking selfies, it however lacks of Oppo’s VOOC fast charging technology which is a shame. In addition, Oppo has continued to ship Android 5.1 Lollipop with the F1s while updating its proprietary ColorOS launcher to version 3.0, which can also be found on the F1 Plus. Oppo has never been fond of updating its devices to the latest Android OS version as it believes that ColorOS could deliver a snappy user experience, which we can testify back in our reviews.
The Oppo F1s comes in Gold and Rose Gold colors and will be available for pre-order starting from today onwards, it will be available on 20 August 2016 at a suggested retail price of RM1,198, which makes it a pretty good deal if you are after the F1 Plus’ camera but couldn’t afford its RM1,898 price tag with a very minor compromise in hardware specs.
