While battery size is an important aspect in smartphones, the recent years have shown that the charging speed of a smartphone matters to many consumers. With the current fast charging technologies, smartphones require less and less time to charge, and one of the well-known fast charging technology is definitely OPPO’s VOOC Flash Charge.
The company held its SuperVOOC Flash Charge Open Day in Shanghai at the beginning of this month announcing that it will officially license the VOOC Flash Charge technology. OPPO signed patent license agreements with six chip and terminal manufacturers, and aims to expand the usage of the VOOC Flash Charge technology in the industry so that other industry partners can also provide the flash charging experience to more global consumers.
“As the leader in flash charging, we are dedicated to extending the advantages of VOOC Flash Charge to the whole industry,” said Yiren Shen, the Global Vice President and China President of OPPO.
OPPO also plans to license the technology on a fair and non-discriminatory basis to ensure that other industry partners will also be able to share the VOOC Flash Charge with their consumers. As of now, there are already six partner manufacturers that are permitted to develop and sell chips and accessories with VOOC Flash Charge, but OPPO stated that the license will be expanded to accommodate for more innovative products to be manufactured. With the licensing, it might be possible to see many more items that are battery-powered to get the flash charging, not just smartphones.
OPPO’s licensing of the VOOC Flash Charge also includes SuperVOOC Flash Charge, which has been a recent hit for being able to charge the Find X and OPPO R17 Pro very quickly. The R17 Pro was able to reach from 0% to 40% in 10 minutes and the Find X can be fully charged in just 35 minutes. The company said that the serial bi-cell battery, 3C specification cells and VFC algorithm all contribute to the speedy charging rate. In addition, the SuperVOOC technology is certified to be completely safe with its intelligent five-core protection that includes military-level customised devices and smart chips.
We should be expecting more devices and accessories powered by the VOOC Flash Charge next year and if OPPO continues to develop and improve on the current technology, maybe they’d be able to produce an even better flash charging system that can fully charge a phone in just 10 minutes.
