OnePlus has announced an Android Nougat software update rollout for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T by the end of 2016, and fans are hoping that the company will stay true to their word and not pull off another delay in typical “OnePlus of the past” fashion. The good news is, OnePlus has announced a open beta software for the OnePlus 3, based on Android Nougat.
Dubbed the Open Beta 8, the Oxygen OS software will run on top of Google’s latest Android version. Some new key upgrades include a new notifications design, a newly designed settings menu, multi-window view, notification direct reply and custom DPI support. Oxygen OS also sees a couple of new features and improvements with the update. Users will have icon options to choose for the status bar, and Quick Launch is now available for 3rd party apps. OnePlus has also taken the initiative to improve customization for Shelf.
As usual, a beta is labeled as a beta for a reason, tonnes of bugs and software issues. Users will be able to operate the software daily but do take note of these issues that have been identified so far. First of all, Android Pay might fail to work on the software and users might run into a couple of performance and stability issues. The beta happens to be incompatible with TWRP recovery so potential users will have to use the stock recovery to flash the software build. OnePlus has also setup a bug report platform for users to report new bugs and issues, before the company releases official OTA updates based on Android Nougat.
