OnePlus has been leaving its older products in the dust since its launch of the OnePlus 3 over two months ago. While that isn’s entirely true, the three year old Chinese startup has been extremely slow in pushing out software updates for the older OnePlus devices. As talks of Android 7.0 Nougat are on the rise, OnePlus has finally released the Oxygen OS 3.1 community build for the OnePlus X, running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Better late than never, right?
“Community Build” is probably the OnePlus way of labeling a beta version of a software update. Users will be expecting the usual new features that come with Android Marshmallow, such as app permissions and Doze. On top of the usuals, OnePlus has also included new icon packs for its launcher, improvements for its Shelf UX, to name a few minor additions. The Alert Sider can now be further customized with the update. The update also sees two new apps – OnePlus Music Player and OnePlus Gallery.
OnePlus has highlighted that users might face some issues since this isn’t the final build of Oxygen OS 3.1, such as mobile network stability issues, compatibility issues with 3rd party apps plus language localization is still a work in progress. Also, users are highly advised to backup their data to avoid tantrum throwing or cries of regret after.
